Transform “Owing” Into “Owning”. How To Win The “Debt Game” Through Understanding The Gift of Playing It.

Transform "Owing" Into "Owning". How To Win The "Debt Game" Through Understanding The Gift of Playing It.

“Debt is bad”, right? That’s certainly what Valerie thought. Valerie was a well paid, tenured school teacher earning $70,000 a year, but each year she scratched her head in amazement that she was still horribly in debt and it was growing yearly. She would say to herself “Debt is bad”, and “I must be such a horrible person”, or maybe “I’m just too stupid, because when it comes to money- I just can’t win!” Valerie was playing the “Debt Game”…..and losing. But she continued to play, continuing to feel she “Owed” even her very soul.

The “debt” that caught most people’s attention in picking up this article was most likely ‘credit card debt’. The good thing about debt is that it has the possibility of awakening us to the meaning for deliberately choosing a life we love. When we become aware of the worry, concern and avoidance (head under covers that is typically credited (pun intended) to carrying credit card balances), we can then recognize that we have the ability to shift into an empowered position by asking ourselves “ What has it come to teach me?”

Debt is defined as: something that is owed or that one is bound to pay to or perform for another. Not very empowering, is it?

If I know that “I owe” before the month even starts; if I feel like “I am behind” before I ever step out the front door; if I consider myself “bad and wrong and worthless” for having gotten to this point, then “debt wins” and it will most assuredly continue to grow. If I have the thought that the number on the credit card statement has power over me, then it will only continue to escalate.

Here are three ways to WIN the debt game…Doing these three things, you transform OWING to OWNING:

1)   Take a deep breath – really – you are deliberately taking in life and nurturing your body and brain, and exhaling what is not needed or necessary.

2)   Know that debt, and how you hold it, is only your perspective or a thought and even though you may not feel in control of the debt, you are definitely in control of the perspective of your thoughts (through practice); in fact, our thoughts are the only thing that we have control of…and that knowing is more than enough to transform our lives.

So what do I mean by that? If you hold a negative energy, a negatively charged thought, you will continue to create more of the same negatively charged conditions. What quantum physicists have proven is that everything is energy. Things don’t contain energy; they are energy, including our bodies and our thoughts. Energy vibrates at various frequencies. You know this instinctively. For example, you vibrate at a much higher frequency when you are filled with joy, compared to when you are afraid. When your thoughts are focused on this “bad debt”, “bad me” “crippling situation” you will not transform the situation. This vibrating energy is what attracts its like unto itself. The transformation of debt begins with changing your thought.

3)   Create a vision of a life you would love living.

This is the beginning of changing your thought system, your patterned way of thinking, of automatic worry, belittling, punishment. You don’t deny the circumstance, you deny its power over you. Ask yourself: what would I love? What would I love my life to look like? If your first response is “debt free”, then think again. If you concentrate on being free of debt, then you must have debt to be free of. Think about that; proclaiming being free of what you don’t want keeps it in place. This is why diets don’t work and why  wars on drugs, wars on poverty, cancer-free slogans will not transform the conditions. These missions keep in place the very thing they were thought to abolish. Nothing is destroyed, nothing can be destroyed; energy can only be transformed.

In your heart, you know you were born to be healthy, to be abundant, to be loved and loving and prosperous. This knowing glows inside you even as a small, tiny ember, and you can nurture that ember into a glowing fire. The only way to get rid of a situation is to replace it with a life giving thought of what you would love. Create a vision of a life you love living. A vision is like the light switch in a dark room…when you turn it on the darkness vanishes.
